 Then Kingston NY metro area was rated as one of the most secure in the country by Sperling's BestPlaces. Kingston was rated #86 of 379 metro areas in the US and came in ahead of the other Hudson Valley metro area of Poughkeepsie, Newburgh and Middletown. In order to rank the metros, factors such as crime statistics, extreme weather, risk of natural disasters, environmental hazards, terrorism threats, air quality, life expectancy and job loss numbers were considered.
